Holocaust Book Club Reflections š
What does learning about the life of the main character in my book teach me about how I want to live my own life?
The main character in my book, The Boy On The Wooden Box, Leon Leysonās life was very difficult and horrible... The way Leyson lived, taught me that I should be happy for what I have, and grateful that I even have all the things I get, and I am... I am happy and grateful. Leyson lived as if he was an unwanted animal that is put to work for no apparent reason, that is also how the Naziās treated him and his family in the ghettoās. I have never been in a ghetto or let alone threatened to be killed if I donāt do things I donāt want to do by a higher upper, and yes I certainly donāt want to. So this also taught me that I want to be happy with what I get in the future and I want to stay positive, so I shall.
How do the choices people make during the rise of the Nazi Party and the Holocaust teach you about the power and impact of your choices today?
This teaches me that what the Nazi Party did was just horrible and basically something that shouldnāt have ever happened but it did... And this impacts my choices to never be so hateful towards innocent people because of my anger, which I never was, but if I was then I would definitely think of my choices and change it. If I was a bystander, I would want to not be a Bystander anymore and would want to help those that need help, even if they donāt want it.
Now that I learned and read about a serious and heart wrecking event such as the Holocaust, I truly am rethinking all the negative things I done, and how I can change it in the future.
And that is all for Reflection! Bye Bye.

Book Club Book š±
Lately I was put into a Book Club group where I have to read a book called, THE BOY ON THE WOODEN BOX , and some questions that I would like to answer are :
How have my feelings changed as Iāve been reading?
First things first, the book I am reading is about,
āLeon Leyson loved playing on the krakĆ³w streetcars with his friends
and tagging along after his older brothers...
Then, suddenly, German soldiers were :
In his country. In his city. In his home.
Seemingly overnight, the life he knew vanished. The Third Reich
wanted him, and every other Jew in Europe, dead.
The darkest of times can unleash the worst in human natureāand also the best.
Leon Leyson lived through those times. This is his story.ā
The author of the book is Leon Leyson which makes it a autobiography. Since I learned about the Holocaust and what went on during it, I expected somethingās that happened in the book to happen, so I wasnāt that surprised. But I got really surprised when I came to a part of a book where Leyson explained that a German solider was actually being friendly and kind with him when normally the German soldiers are horrible to Jewish people. So that left me thinking about a lot of things. If I could talk to the author, what questions would I ask? Why?
I would ask if rubber bands existed at Leysonās time because Jewish peopleās hair would grow long whenever they were in ghettoās surviving, and they didnāt really have anything to cut it with, so did they at least have a rubber band to put it back? I would also ask Leyson if he ever felt like just giving up on living at times, because of how hard it was just to live at the time zone the Holocaust took place in.
What has been the most important part of what youāve been reading?
The most important part of what Iāve been reading is when a character, thatās in the book, saved Leyson and his family because of his kindness. I believe this is important because during the time Leyson and that hero met, Leyson was standing on a box, because he was too short to reach a machine and thatās when the hero started being kind to him, and what is this book called? Thatās right! THE BOY ON THE WOODEN BOX, coincidence? I think not! So since the title relates to that scene in the story, I believe that is the most important part.

Berlin Memorial Activity & My Answers on It š
What did I learn?
When I went to my ELA (English Language Arts) I learned, seen, and did many things...
Such as learning that many events during different time periods in the 1900ās went down, and they were NOT good... Because the things that went down were horrible laws that went specifically against the Jews. Why do you think the monument was build?
I believe the monument was built for remembrance in these laws that were created against the Jews. Basically to show that the laws are so bad that they just shouldnāt be forgotten.
This is the monument/Berlin memorialā¬ļø
What did I notice about the number of laws passed in certain years?
What I noticed about the number of laws passed in certain years was that all the laws were totally unfair and that they were down right ridiculous, they took away basic human rights and with what the laws were passing I doubt the Jews could even stay alive and survive. Which is really heart wrecking, might I add.
Which restrictions do I think I would have the most trouble dealing with and why?
The restrictions I would have trouble dealing with would probably be one of the laws that said, āJews not allowed to go to school. 6/20/42ā because no, I am not Jewish but if I were I would want to go to school to be smart and be successful in life. Sure school is hard and could sometimes be unenjoyable but I know I need it in order to survive in this world.

2nd Quarter Review šš
Oh!... MY GAWD! Itās almost the end of the second quarter! And boooyyy do I have some things to say about it!
What are Some Books I Read This Quarter? : Defriended, Together Forever, Openly Straight, and The Technology of World War II. All the books listed are fiction except for the last one listed.
My favorite book would have to be Defriended because itās a Thriller Mystery book and I really love those genres of books.
In what Area do I Think I Made my Biggest Improvement in ELA? : Which I would have to say would be... Tiqa writing. I had little knowledge and surety on what I was doing when it came to Tiqaās but now I know exactly what they all stand for and what to write in each letter.
What is One Thing I Accomplished in the New Year that I Am Proud of? : Getting through my PE tests that Iāve been dreading to do.
Where am I in My Book Challenge? : So far I only completed 4 books š . I guess my nonfiction book is taking most of my time of reading, huh? But I donāt mind, the book is interesting.
What was the Most Challenging part of the 2nd Quarter for Me? : Most likely the quarter starting because I knew there was going to be MANY challenges up ahead. But I overcomed it by just telling myself, āGet over it, youāre going to have approximately 13 years of school left anyway.ā And so I got over it!
What have I learned about the World? : Well I learned that there has been some serious wild fires happening in Australia and thatās really awful. :-(
How has My Research skills Improved? : Well for one, I learned that there is a thing called, Labeled for Reuse, when you look up a photo for a project and itās best to pick the ones labeled for reuse. :-)

Book Review āļø
So Iām reading a book called, The Technology World War II by Sean Sheehan, and so far it is about the technology usage during the battles that occurred during World War 2. There were weapons like Atom Bombs (Most of them were bombs), and the book not only taught me about the technology in the war, it also taught me some valuable information that I didnāt know such as Einstein writing a letter to the U.S, warning them about the dangers of Hitler. I also learned that Einstein is in fact Jewish. Which brings me to why the title, āTechnology and People.ā relates to the book. Well first of all, the title is in the book so that obviously relates to the book by it being one of the topics... BUT! It also is the title to the paragraphs thatās are written to be about Technology, like what the whole book is about.
Now there is a specific passage that I thought to be interesting, and I did mention it before but I would like to state it right out of the book. The passage that I wanted to state is on a certain topic called, Jewish Scientists and the paragraph to that topic is basically about how Adolf Hitler was using scientific technology like bombs for his weapons which led a lot of Jewish people to flee out of Europe in 1933. There was a Hungarian physicist man named, Leo Szilard, that was working in early Nazi Germany at the time, and also left Europe to go to the U.S. But what for? Only to campaign to alert the U.S on what unspeakable crimes that Adolf Hitler was doing. But Szilard did not do this on his own, ā...He contacted Albert Einstein, the world-famous physicist, who then wrote to the president of the United States warning of the danger of Nazi nuclear science. Einstein was himself Jewish and had also fled Nazi Germany out of fear of persecution.ā I think this is really interesting because once again, I had no idea Einstein was related to World War 2. I also didnāt know he played a big role either.
I have to admit... Topics, like the ones I have listed from above, are the type of topics I could never forget because this is really fascinating to me and I truly am intrigued in the book I am reading. Iām especially excited for the new information, I havenāt known already, that comes next.
